Rose quartz is one of the most popular varieties of the mineral quartz.
It's widely used as a carving material and for its healing properties.
When used as a gemstone, rose quartz tends to be cut as a cabochon. This is because it's slightly cloudy which is enhanced when a stone is faceted.
Rose quartz crystallises in masses, which means it grows as one large, shapeless mass. Well-formed crystals have never been found.
Another type of pink quartz that does form distinctive crystals, often referred to as 'pink quartz,' is far more scarce and has a different chemical composition.
Rose quartz can range from a subtle shade of pink to a rich and distinctive hue. Unlike the variety known as 'pink quartz,' it rarely fades when exposed to heat or UV light.
The rough and polished rose quartz in our collection comes from South Africa, Brazil and Madagascar.
