Lightly Polished Amazonite from Brazil
Lightly polished, amazonite tumbled stones from Bahia, northeastern Brazil.
These larger-sized amazonite tumbled stones have a vitreous lustre, which refers to how they interact with light. Stones with this kind of lustre reflect light in a similar way to glass.
They have only been lightly tumbled to retain the ruggedness of the raw material.
Amazonite, also known as Amazon Stone, is the blue-green variety of the mineral microcline whose colour comes from lead.
In the past, amazonite came mostly from Miyask in the Ilmen Mountains near Chelyabinsk in Russia. More recently it has also been found in Colorado and a few other locations in the United States. Most of the world's amazonite comes from Madagascar and Brazil.
These amazonite tumbled stones have a distinctive scent that's reminiscent of plasticine. It comes from the wax used for polishing.
Although classed as extra large, size does vary from piece to piece. We have therefore split them into medium, large and extra large. The medium size is larger than an average medium-sized tumbled stone.
