Large Fossilised Coral Cabochon
Fossilised coral comes primarily from the area around Lake Michigan in the USA. It can also be found in Indonesia. This fascinating stone dates back approximately 350 million years.
An unusually large gem-grade cabochon with exceptional markings. The front is highly polished and exhibits a vitreous lustre. The back is unpolished.
Fossilised coral from the USA is also known as Petoskey Stone. The stone and city of Petoskey which lies on the south east shore of Little Traverse Bay are named after a 19th century indigenous American chief.
