Striking Ruby Zoisite Cabochon
A finely cut, partly polished ruby zoisite cabochon with wonderful colour.
This stone's deep red is Longido ruby, and the green is zoisite. The tiny black inclusions are hornblende, and the white markings may be calcite, quartz, or feldspar.
Ruby zoisite, also known as ruby in zoisite, is a rock, not a mineral, because it's a combination of at least two different minerals.
Due to the difference in hardness of the corundum and zoisite, it's not particularly easy to cut.
This striking cabochon is offered at a reduced price due to a minor polishing issue around the base of the stone
When sourcing gemstones from my supplier in Jaipur, India, I often browse a basket of stones waiting to be re-polished. In most cases, the imperfection is so subtle that it's difficult to know the issue.
The stones come with a good discount, which I’m happy to pass on.
I love the natural beauty of rocks, minerals and gemstones, and for me, perfection is not always a priority.
