Colourful rhodonite gemstone crafted as a pendant in fine sterling silver.

The black markings often present in this mineral are caused by manganese oxides.

Rhodonite was first discovered in the 17th century.  Its sole use is for decorative purposes.

Although individual crystals do occur they're extremely rare.  The material used for decorative purposes is "massive".  In this crystal habit crystals form one tightly intergrown mass.  No external shape or form can be seen.
