Rough Quartz Crystals and Rose Quartz Hearts
Two highly translucent rough quartz crystals from Brazil. The larger of the two is almost transparent.
The rose quartz hearts were cut and polished in South Africa.
Despite being one of the most abundant minerals on the planet, quartz crystals have amazed and fascinated humans for thousands of years.
Quartz is a naturally occurring crystalline solid which means it's made up of crystals. The ancient Greek philosopher Theophrastus believed it was a type of ice that would never melt. The fact it could be found in the Alps further confirmed his theory.
Individual crystals of rose quartz have never been found. This popular mineral crystallises in masses which means it grows as one large shapeless mass. This is unusual for quartz because most varieties exhibit well formed crystals.
There is a type of pink quartz that does form individual crystals but it has a slightly different chemical composition to rose quartz.
The larger quartz crystal on the left in our photos is number 1 in the dropdown menu. It weighs 104.3 grams and measures 9.2cms x 2.9 x 2.8.
Number 2 weighs 77.9 grams and measures 6.7cms x 2.4 x 3.1.
The rose quartz hearts weigh 37.2 grams and measure 4cms x 3.5 x 1.7. Each one is subtly translucent.
