Blue Chalcedony Crystals Larger Sizes
Chalcedony is a general term for varieties of quartz made up of microscopic-sized crystals.
The term microcrystalline is used to describe a mineral's crystals that are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
In its purest form, chalcedony is white, but impurities of other minerals cause a wide variety of colours. Although blue tends to be known simply as chalcedony, many other colours have their own unique name.
Stones that occur with bands are known as agate, the apple green variety is chrysoprase, and the reddish-orange stone is carnelian.
Blue chalcedony can often have very subtle colour. Furthermore, despite the name, it's not always entirely blue. For this reason it's often dyed, particularly stones used for gemstones.
These highly polished chalcedony crystals have an exceptionally smooth texture. They're classed as a large sized stone although size can vary from piece to piece. They're tumbled from material mined in Namibia.
