Blue Goldstone Crystals Sparkly Man-Made
Goldstone is an interesting crystal sometimes mistaken for a natural stone. It's one of only a few man-made stones that we have as part of our collection.
Blue goldstone is not seen as often as the orange-brown variety. Although both sparkle as light reflects of minute inclusions within the glass, they're slightly different materials.
The orange-brown variety of goldstone is made using clear glass, although occasionally, it may be slightly coloured. The orange-brown hue comes from the copper inclusions.
Blue goldstone is made using blue glass. The spangled reflectance comes from inclusions of cobalt.
The term aventurescence is often used to describe this appearance. The mineral aventurine is believed to have been named after goldstone because it exhibits a similar phenomenon.
Although many believe goldstone was named after aventurine, it was actually the other way around.
The twinkling effect in blue goldstone is often more impressive because of the darker-coloured glass.
Tumbling goldstone is not easy because glass is fragile. It's therefore not unusual for some stones to have minor chips.
Our blue goldstone crystals are a medium-size stone, although size can vary from piece to piece.
