Carnelian Agate Crystals from Brazil
These highly polished carnelian agate tumbled stones are exceptionally colourful.
These stones are being sold as 'carnelian agate' because they're agate that has been treated to replicate the colour of carnelian.
Carnelian and agate are both varieties of chalcedony. Carnelian tends to be less included, hence stones are more translucent. Carnelian is also slightly rarer, so it's more expensive.
Agate is a banded chalcedony, which is a microcrystalline variety of quartz. Microcrystalline means the mineral's crystals are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
In red varieties of agate, which includes carnelian, the colour is caused by iron oxides.
Our carnelian agate crystals are a medium tumbled stone, but size can vary from piece to piece.
