Chrysoprase Crystals Striking Colour
Chrysoprase is a green variety of the mineral quartz. The exact shade of colour can vary depending on where it was mined.
Although widely used for decorative purposes the colour of chrysoprase is not stable. This means it can fade if exposed to excessive heat or sunlight for long periods of time.
The finest grade chrysoprase once came from Poland and the Czech Republic. Most material now comes from Australia, Russia, USA and Brazil.
Chrysoprase is believed to have been named by the Ancient Greeks after the vegetable leek because of the similarity in colour.
Depending on the grade, crystals can range from being almost opaque to highly translucent. Chrysoprase is often confused for jade and it's not unheard of for dyed agate to be sold as chrysoprase.
Weights and sizes of our chrysoprase crystals can vary slightly from piece to piece. These are a medium sized tumbled stone.
We only have three stones left available and have not been able to find this grade of chrysoprase from the Czech Republic again. Some do have minor imperfections.
