Fluorite is a fragile mineral that chips and fractures easily.
The colour of some fluorite may fade if exposed to UV light for long periods.
On the Mohs scale of hardness, fluorite grades 4. As well as being soft, it's also brittle and cleaves in four directions. This makes it highly susceptible to internal fractures, especially while being tumbled.
In mineralogy, cleavage is the tendency for a crystalline solid to split along structural planes of weakness.
Green fluorite has a glass-like appearance and texture, which makes it incredibly tactile.
