Sugilite is a rare and highly sought after mineral found primarily in South Africa. It comes from the Kalahari Manganese Field in the Northern Cape province.
This area is the largest land-based manganese deposit on Earth. Sugilite is becoming rarer by the day and the finest grade material commands exceptional prices.
The shades of red and purple seen in sugilite are caused partly by impurities of manganese. The amount present in manganese sugilite is considerably higher, so the stone can look almost black.
These impressive manganese sugilite crystals have an exceptional polish and each stone is incredibly tactile.
Although classed as a large sized tumbled stone, size can vary from piece to piece.
