Pink Moss Agate Tumbled Stones
These large, pink Moss Agate tumbled stones were carefully chosen for our collection of rocks and minerals.
Moss agate is a type of chalcedony with distinctive moss-like inclusions.
Despite looking similar to organic matter, the inclusions are crystals of hornblende or chlorite. Although mostly green, they can also be red or brown due to oxidation.
Inclusions in moss agate can also be dendritic. The word 'dendrite' comes from the Greek 'dendron,' meaning 'tree.' Dendritic inclusions have a branching or tree-like shape. Dendrites coloured by iron or manganese oxides are black or brown.
The inclusions in Moss Agate give each stone a unique appearance. Colours tend to be hues of red, brown, and pink. It's not possible to say for certain whether the colour is completely natural or if the stone has been heated.
These Moss Agate crystals are often sold as Pink Moss Agate, which is a trade name introduced quite recently.
Moss Agate has a vitreous lustre so reflects light in a similar way to glass.
Although classed as a large stone, size can vary from piece to piece. We've split these Moss Agate tumbled stones into medium and large.
