Cluster of Hematite Crystals
Miniature hematite crystals from the N'Chwaning mine, Northern Cape South Africa.
Striations can be seen on some of the the crystal faces. These have a highly reflective metallic lustre. Some secondary minerals are also present but I can't say for certain what they are.
This miniature crystal sparkles beautifully as it catches the light at certain angles.
N'Chwaning is part of the Kalahari manganese field which sits amongst well preserved 2.2 billion year old sedimentary rocks in the Northern Cape of South Africa.
