Rough Lapis Lazuli Stone
Natural lapis lazuli stone from the Sar-e Sang mines, Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan.
This rough piece has excellent colour and distinctive calcite and pyrite inclusions.
The mines at Sar-e Sang have been producing high-quality lapis lazuli for over 6,000 years. Much of the lapis used by ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Mesopotamians, and later the Greeks and Romans, came from here.
Sar-e Sang remains one of the world's most significant sources of lapis lazuli.
This freestanding, high-quality rough lapis lazuli stone was carefully chosen for our collection. It comes from a supplier in Pakistan with whom we've been doing business for many years.
