Pink Opal Finest Grade Crystals (Peru)
The colour of these small to medium sized pink opal crystals varies from almost white to a slightly richer shade of pink.
Pink opal is from the same family as the precious opal. The main difference is that it doesn't exhibit 'play of colour.'
Opal, which is composed of hardened silica gel, forms from a mixture where tiny silica particles are evenly dispersed in water without settling.
Over time, as the water evaporates and the particles bond together, the silica solidifies into a rigid structure.
Opal contains five to ten per cent water trapped in pores so small they're difficult to see even when magnified.
These subtle-coloured pink opal crystals are exceptionally tactile and reflect light beautifully. They're classed as grade-A stones because they're mostly inclusion-free.
We also have grade-A pink opal tumbled stones in a more distinctive shade of pink.
