The distinctive markings in snowflake obsidian are inclusions of spherulite. Spherulites are radiating needle-like crystalline fibres that occur in certain igneous rocks. They're generally found in those which are glassy or have a vitreous lustre.
The presence of various impurities in obsidian cause different sheens, markings and colours. Black obsidian is the variety most people are familiar with but there are many others.
Our snowflake obsidian crystals are a medium sized tumbled stone. Size can vary from piece to piece.
