Pietersite Gemstone from Namibia
A finely polished pietersite cabochon.
With the reflection of light from just the right angle subtle chatoyance can be seen in small sections of the stone.
Pietersite is a relatively rare mineral found only in Namibia.
First described in 1962, it's a type of brecciated tigers eye.
Pietersite has similar characteristics to tigers eye but the two formed under very different geological conditions.
This oval shaped pietersite cabochon is fully polished which makes it exceptionally tactile.
It's being offered at a reduced price because it has a minor imperfection on one edge of the stone.
It can be seen in our third photo. The imperfection is on the bottom edge just left of centre. It can be felt more than it can be seen.
It's far more visible in our photo because of our powerful zoom lens.
