Fine Rutilated Quartz Faceted Gemstone
Rutilated quartz is clear quartz included with crystals of the mineral rutile. The fine hair-like strands are most commonly golden coloured but can also be deep reddish-brown or black.
The rutile crystals grow within the quartz over millions of years. Quartz with any type of inclusion is known as included quartz.
When the rutile inclusions are black the stone may be confused for tourmalinated quartz (quartz included with tourmaline).
This fine-grade rutilated quartz gemstone has been faceted. The facets, which were cut by hand, dramatically improve the stone's interaction with light.
Rutilated quartz is also known as rutile quartz, or when the inclusions are black, black rutile.
The small area of green colour on the left side of the stone is from our lights reflecting off inclusions. Some iridescence can also be seen.
This rutilated quartz gemstone has a very minor imperfection on one edge of the stone. It cannot be seen without magnification but can just about be felt.
