Ruby Zoisite Crystals from Tanzania
Fine-grade ruby zoisite tumbled stones, cut from material mined in Tanzania.
Ruby zoisite, which is relatively rare, is a combination of the minerals green zoisite and red corundum. Black crystals of hornblende are also often present. Gem-grade red corundum is ruby.
These grade-A ruby zoisite crystals exhibit a deeper and richer colour than lower-grade material and have a finer polish. Not all stones exhibit visible red corundum.
We also have AAA-grade ruby zoisite tumbled stones and also grade-B.
Ruby zoisite, also known as ruby in zoisite, is used primarily for decorative purposes. It can be a difficult stone to work with because of the difference in hardness of the two minerals. After diamond, corundum is the hardest natural mineral.
Ruby in zoisite is often mistaken for ruby in fuchsite (fook~site). Although the two can look very similar, ruby in fuchsite is far more common. The vast majority comes from India, whereas ruby in zoisite comes almost exclusively from Tanzania.
These ruby zoisite crystals are a medium tumbled stone. Size can vary from piece to piece.
