Black Tourmaline (Schorl) Namibia
These grade-A black tourmaline crystals were produced from material mined in Namibia.
Black tourmaline, also known as schorl, is the most abundant variety of tourmaline. Although other varieties can be black, schorl is always black, opaque, and prized for its deep black colour.
Tourmaline often occurs as needle-like inclusions in other minerals, particularly quartz.
Black tourmaline is widely used for its metaphysical healing properties, primarily for protection and grounding.
It's worth noting that black obsidian is sometimes sold as black tourmaline because it's cheaper. Although the two can look similar, black tourmaline is denser and heavier than obsidian, which is a volcanic glass.
Tourmaline is crystalline, so it's a mineral. Obsidian is non-crystalline, so it's a mineraloid.
Schorl is more expensive than obsidian due to its rarity and distinct properties.
These black tourmaline crystals are medium-sized tumbled stones, but size does vary from piece to piece. We’ve split them into medium and large. If purchasing stones in quantities of 10, 20, or 30, sizes will be mixed.
