Black Onyx Gemstone
A medium-sized, finely polished 'black onyx' gemstone with an incredibly smooth, almost slippery texture.
While black onyx does occur naturally, it is relatively rare. Therefore, most 'black onyx' is dyed agate or chalcedony.
Identifying the true mineral would require tests that are likely to cause some level of damage.
Onyx is typically a black-and-white banded agate, so finding a natural piece of pure black onyx without these distinctive bands is highly unlikely.
Most black onyx is used in jewellery making.
