Colourful Jasper Cabochons - Five Varieties
Six grade-A, finely polished jasper gemstones cut as cabochons.
Cabochon 1 is Noreena Jasper. 2 is Scenic Jasper, which, like Picture Jasper, is a type of mudstone.
Number 3 is Mookaite, and 4 is Ocean Jasper. Number 5 is Dalmatian Jasper, 6 is Mookaite.
Dalmation Jasper is a trade name for Perthite, named after the city of Perth (Ontario), which is close to where the stone was discovered. It's an alkali feldspar granite that does not contain jasper.
Stones are often given trade names to boost their popularity. From a geological perspective, the problem is that many of these names are misleading or inaccurate regarding the material's chemical composition.
Each jasper cabochon has been finely polished to a vitreous lustre.
