Turquoise is one of the oldest gemstones, having been mined and used for decorative purposes for thousands of years.
The dark spidery veins are part of the host rock in which the turquoise formed.
This fine-grade turquoise cabochon was purchased from a supplier in Kathmandu, but I can't say where the original material was mined.
Turquoise is December's birthstone.
