Spectacular Tigers Eye Sphere
A truly spectacular tigers eye sphere, with exceptional colour and markings.
Chatoyant and tactile, this finely polished sphere was cut from stone mined in Griqualand West, Northern Cape, South Africa.
The optical phenomenon known as chatoyance can be seen in several minerals but is best known in chrysoberyl and tigers eye.
Chatoyance occurs as light reflects off microscopic fibres or needle-like inclusions beneath the stone's surface. This causes a silky sheen, which can give the impression that colours and patterns are moving.
This beautiful tigers eye sphere is standing on a polished hematite ring, which is available to buy separately.
A one-off piece from our collection of rocks and minerals.
