Mookaite Crystals from Western Australia
AAA-grade mookaite crystals from Mooka Creek. Fantastic colours, beautifully polished.
Mookaite is a distinctive variety of jasper widely used for decorative purposes. Although quite hard, it's also brittle, which makes cutting and polishing difficult.
Mookaite, whose scientific name is windalia radiolarite, can only be found in Western Australia.
The stone's different colours are the result of the original rock being stained with groundwater rich in dissolved minerals. The reds and yellows are likely to come from
hematite and/or goethite.
These highly polished mookaite crystals are larger-sized tumbled stones, but size can vary from piece to piece.
