Pyrite is an iron sulphide mineral meaning it's a chemical compound of iron and sulphur.
The name 'pyrite' comes from the Greek word ‘pyr’ meaning ‘fire.’ When struck with a hard stone or steel, pyrite produces a spark. Since antiquity, it has been used for lighting fires.
