Tourmalinated Quartz Tumbled Stones
Grade A, tourmalinated quartz tumbled stones produced from material mined in Namibia.
This natural stone is quartz with needle-like inclusions of tourmaline. The combination of these two minerals creates a unique appearance.
Tourmalinated quartz is sometimes mistaken for rutilated quartz, which contains inclusions of the mineral rutile.
The tourmaline in this type of included quartz is schorl, which is typically black or a very dark colour.
Tourmalinated quartz ranges from transparent to translucent, although transparent material, which is rarer, would not be used for tumbling because of its grade.
Tumbled tourmalinated quartz tends to have a cloudy appearance, and stones are generally translucent rather than transparent.
These tourmalinated quartz tumbled stones are size medium, although as with any stone produced in a rock tumbler, size does vary slightly from piece to piece.
