Chunky, Rough Kyanite Crystal
A rough, low to medium-grade, rough kyanite crystal from our collection of rocks and minerals.
The colour of this translucent kyanite crystal can appear more intense when held up to the light.
Kyanite is anisotropic, meaning it has different physical properties in different directions, unlike isotropic materials, which remain the same in all directions.
When tested along its length, kyanite's hardness is approximately 4 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale, but across the width of the same crystal, it measures between 6 and 7.
Kyanite is widely used in industry due to its hardness and high resistance to heat, making it ideal for refractory materials and ceramics.
