Rough Longido Ruby
Fine-grade Longido ruby is relatively rare. This stone is called 'Longido ruby' because it comes from the Longido mining district in northern Tanzania, near the border with Kenya.
Longido ruby is typically found in a matrix of green zoisite and is the red corundum in 'ruby zoisite.' When high-grade stones are found, the surrounding zoisite is carefully hammered away.
A new vein of gem-quality Longido rubies was discovered in late 2017.
Longido rubies are prized for their deep red, almost crimson colour.
These nine rough Longido rubies are currently the only stones we have available.
