AAA-Grade Ruby Zoisite Stones
These fine-grade ruby zoisite tumbled stones are classed as AAA-grade because of the richness of colour and their fine polish. The presence of red corundum (ruby) is not a contributing factor.
When ruby zoisite is tumbled, it's not possible for each stone to be included with ruby.
The corundum in ruby zoisite is known as Longido ruby because it comes from the Longido mining district in northern Tanzania.
Ruby zoisite is a combination of green zoisite and red corundum. The black inclusions are believed to be pargasite or tschermakite, which belong to the hornblende group of minerals.
Ruby zoisite, also known as ruby in zoisite, is used primarily for decorative purposes. It can be difficult to cut because of the difference in the hardness of the two stones. Corundum is the hardest known mineral after diamond.
Ruby in zoisite is often mistaken for ruby in fuchsite (fook-site). Although they can look very similar, ruby in fuchsite is more common. The majority comes from India, whereas ruby in zoisite comes almost exclusively from Tanzania.
We also have grade B ruby zoisite tumbled stones and a small collection of rough Longido rubies.
These ruby zoisite tumbled stones are a size medium, but size can vary slightly from piece to piece.
