Two Sodalite Crystal Points
Two free-standing sodalite terminated points, cut from material mined in Brazil.
The greyish-white colour in sodalite is believed to come from calcite or possibly feldspar.
The mineral sodalite was found in the ruins of the pre-Columbian Bolivian city of Tiahuanaco. It was first classified as a mineral in 1811.
Sodalite often occurs with the mineral lazurite, which gives lapis lazuli its blue colour.
Some of the finest sodalite comes from Canada, USA and Russia.
