Sodalite Crystals Inky-Blue Colour
Highly polished sodalite crystals with a deep inky-blue colour. These stones are classed as AAA-grade because they're virtually free from inclusions.
We also have sodalite with a greyish-white inclusion and another with an orange inclusion. The orange may come from impurities of calcite or feldspar or may also be the result of staining or oxidation.
Sodalite, named for its high sodium content, is sometimes mistaken for lapis lazuli. Although the two stones are quite different, sodalite is one of several minerals present in lapis.
Despite being quite hard, sodalite is brittle, which makes cutting and polishing difficult.
Bancroft Ontario, Ice River British Columbia, Litchfield Maine (USA) and Brazil have the world's largest commercial deposits. Sodalite can also be found in smaller quantities in Greenland, Russia, Montana and India.
These navy-blue-coloured sodalite crystals have an exceptional polish, which makes them incredibly tactile. They're cut from material mined in Brazil.
