Green Chalcedony Crystals - South Africa
Chalcedony is a general term for a translucent variety of quartz composed of microscopic-sized crystals.
In its purest form, chalcedony is white, but impurities of other minerals cause a wide variety of colours. Although blue tends to be known as chalcedony, several other colours have their own unique name.
Chalcedony that occurs with bands is known as agate. Reddish-brown chalcedony is carnelian. Bloodstone is a dark green chalcedony with red inclusions caused by iron oxides.
Although chrysoprase is green chalcedony, not all green chalcedony is chrysoprase. For chalcedony to be classified as chrysoprase, its colour must come from nickel. If the green colour does not come from nickel, it's known simply as green chalcedony
These green chalcedony tumbled stones, which come from South Africa, have been beautifully polished.
They're medium-sized stones, but size does vary from piece to piece.
