Ruby Zoisite Rough Rock
A particularly interesting piece of ruby zoisite from our collection of rocks and minerals.
Ruby zoisite is relatively rare and can only be found in Tanzania.
This distinctive stone is composed of red corundum and green zoisite with inclusions of pargasite or tschermakite, which belong to the hornblende group of minerals.
The greyish-white inclusion on the back of this piece is likely to be quartz, calcite or feldspar, but it's difficult to know for certain without further analysis.
When this ruby zoisite stone is moved gently in dimmed ambient light, minute sparkling crystals can be seen.
This ruby zoisite stone has been washed and filed to smooth rough edges but is otherwise untouched.
Ruby zoisite, also known as ruby in zoisite and occasionally anyolite, is a rock, not a mineral.
